Abstract

The invention comprises water-soluble metalliferous monoazo dyes which, in the form of their free acids, are of formula: <FORM:0850559/IV (c)/1> wherein Y is an amino, methoxy or phenoxy group or an anilino group optionally containing one or two sulphonic acid groups. They may be prepared (1) by reacting an appropriate coppercontaining aminoazo dye with a dichloro -s-triazine containing a substituent Y; (2) by reacting a copper containing monoazo dye of the above formula but having a chlorine atom in place of the substituent Y, with a compound of formula H-Y and (3) by preparing the dyestuff of the above formula in its metal free form and treating it with a copper-yielding agent. The dyes may be used to dye or print wool, silk, regenerated protein, polyamide or polyacrylonitrile fibres by conventional methods and are preferably used in conjunction with an alkaline agent to dye or print cellulosic textile materials in violet shades. In examples: (1) the copper complex of the dyestuff 6-chloro -2- aminophenol -4- sulphonic acid --> 1-amino -8- naphthol -3 : 6-disulphonic acid is reacted with 2-phenoxy-or -methoxy -4 : 6- dichloro -striazine; (2) the dyestuff of (1) is treated successively with equimolar amounts of cyanuric chloride and metanilic acid aniline or ammonia. The Provisional Specification describes copper- and nickelcontaining monoazo dyestuffs having linked thereto through a nitrogen atom a s-triazine group which is substituted by a halogen atom and by a substituent containing at most 13 carbon atoms. The processes of preparation of the dyestuffs are similar to those specified above. Many intermediate aminoazo dyestuffs and suitable components for their preparation, and components from which the substituents linked to the s-triazine ring are derived, are specified. In examples the copper complex of the dye 2-amino-phenol -4- ethyl sulphone --> 1-amino-8- naphthol -3 : 6- disulphonic is reacted with 2-phenoxy -or-methoxy -4 : 6- dichloro -striazine, or with cyanuric chloride followed by metanilic acid, aniline or ammonia.
