Abstract
624,192. Winding hanks. PORTER, D. March 22, 1947, No. 7907. (Class.120 (ii)] In a coil winding machine of the kind equipped with one or more flyers comprising a disc fitted with a pair of spaced parallel rods around which a hank is formed, the thread to be wound is passed from a stationary supply to the rods through a thread guide mounted on a member adapted to be driven step by step through intermittent gearing from a power source employed to drive the flyers, and there is provided on this member a pin &c. arranged for action upon a movable trip or switch for interrupting the drive so automatically stopping the machine when a full complement of coils (a hank) has been wound. Yarn, &c. from supply bobbins 8, is wound into hanks on a number of constantly rotating flyers 6, 7 driven by common belt and chain gearing from an adjustable electric motor. This motor also drives a shaft 56 which through opposed cones 54, 55 and. an adjustable belt 60 drives, through a worm and wormwheel, the driving disc and pin of a Geneva intermittent motion attached to the shaft 42 which, in turn, intermittently drives a chain 26 furnished with guide eyes &c. 25 for the yarn and also with a knock-off pin &c. 27 which contacts a micro-switch &c. and stops the machine when a given number of winds have been effected. In order that the disposition of'the guides 25 with respect to the length of the flyer rods 7 may be effective, a manually operated clutch is disposed between the Geneva gear and the gear 30 of the transverse chain 26. A hand wheel 24 permits the disposition of the flyer arms, at the start of a wind, to be adjusted with respect to the position of the Geneva gear, so to ensure uniformity in lengths wound.
