Abstract
623,348. Supplying liquid fuel. C.A.V., Ltd., and NICOLLS, W. E. W. May 3, 1947, No. 11956. [Class 7 (iii)] A fuel supply system, comprising an injection pump 1 fed by a reservoir 2 which is supplied trom a main tank 3 by an auxiliary pump 4, includes a venting device 5 at the top of the reservoir with venting apertures 12, Fig. 1 controlled by a sliding piston 16 having a small annular clearance between it and the walls of the venting body 8. When reservoir 2 is empty, or nearly so, the piston 16 occupies its lowest position, limited by a pin 18. With the filling of the reservoir 2, entrapped air is discharged through the ports 12 and pipe 15 to the tank 3. When fuel enters the chamber 5, the piston 16 is raised by the fuel flowing past it and the ports 12 are almost completely closed. The pump 4 is preferably of the spring-loaded diaphragm type.
