623,209. Exciting dynamos. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Oct. 7, 1946, No. 29922. Convention date, July 27, 1945. [Class 35] The control field of a generator serving as an amplifier is arranged to strengthen one and weaken the other of at least two poles of the same polarity to produce a voltage difference between the brushes associated with these poles, this voltage being applied to windings arranged on a larger number of poles. As shown in Fig. 11, the separately excited control windings S1, S3 are disposed on two of the four poles only, whereas each of the four poles carries one of coils D1-D4, also one of coils C1-C4 connected between a load terminal Tn and one of the brushes B1, B3, together with one of coils SS1-4 in series with load terminal Tp and there may also be one of shunt coils SP1-4 on each. In addition, two of the poles may carry compensating coils CC2, 4, CD2, 4 and the other poles compensating coils CC1, 3, CD1, 3, while interpoles can carry interpoles 1Q1-4Q4 connected as shown in Fig. 11 and arranged as in Figs. 9 and 10 which show the conditions for no load and a finite load with zero current in S1 and S3. Two of the coils on each interpole may have more ampere turns than the other two. If there are two reference or control voltages, their resultant may be fed to coils S1, S3 or there may be duplicate windings on the same two poles. The coils S1, S3 weaken one and strengthen the other pole, while the coils between the load terminals and bushes B1, B3 are equally and symmetrically excited.
