Abstract

614,104. Inductor alternators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRIEDLANDER E. S. July 5, 1946, No. 20182. [Class 35] The stator of a heteropolar inductor alternator having a uniformly toothed rotor, comprises at least one pair of laminated U-shaped cores whose ends have teeth correspondingly situated to and of the same pitch as those on the rotor, and the cores are so disposed around the periphery of the rotor that adjacent cores present alternate high and low reluctance paths to the rotor which interchange when the rotor turns through half a slot-pitch, each core carrying combined or separate exciting and armature windings. The cores are alternately reversed to produce adjacent pairs of like poles. As shown, the cores 3, 4, 5 and 6, have limbs 7, 8 with teeth 14, 15, and the windings 9, 10, 11 and 12 are connected to form a bridge which is supplied with exciting current from a battery 16 across one diagonal and the output 17 is tapped off from the other diagonal. Alternatively, separate windings may be used, the coils of the exciting winding being alternately reversely connected. In an alternative bridge connected arrangement of windings, Fig. 3, the windings on each core are divided into five parts which are connected with parts of coils from the other coils to form bridges 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37. Thus, the coils 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32 are all on the same core. These bridges are connected in series across the exciting supply 41 and in parallel through condensers 42 to the output terminals 43.
