Abstract
622,257. Resistance measurements. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd., and ROLFE, G. B. Nov. 23, 1946, No. 34797. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXV] The maximum output voltage of a handdriven alternator used with insulation resistance measuring instruments is maintained substantially independent of the driving speed by connecting in its output circuit a resistance which decreases in value with increase in applied volts. The alternator consists of a permanent magnet rotor m, driven through gearing a by a crank handle b. The output from the armature of a fixed resistance g in series with a variable resistance of the type described comprising a disc e of silicon carbide mounted between two electrodes f. The output of the alternator is rectified by half or full-wave rectification, either before or after the compensating circuit, and the uni-directional voltage is fed to the measuring part of the instrument.
