Abstract

560,180. A.C. generators; automatic regulation. HARMER; H. M. Sept. 21, 1942, No. 13270. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] A d.c. generator 2 is excited by a constant frequency a.c. obtained through a vibratory commutator 4 or oscillating valve to produce a.c. of a frequency independent of the speed of the generator. The field circuit is preferably tuned by a condenser 12 in series or in parallel with the field winding 1. Constant voltage may be obtained also by making the source of excitation 3 dependent on the speed of the generator and including in the exciting circuit an automatic regulator according to Specification 554,712, as shown in Fig. 3 and arranged to give a falling excitation voltage with increasing input voltage. The output terminals of the machine may be connected through a regulating arrangement according to any one of Specifications 493,362, 515,207, 521,314, 524,565 or 554,467 ; Fig. 3 shows an arrangement using the first of these and giving a d.c. output of constant voltage.
