Abstract

753,270. Alternators. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 29, 1955 [May 4, 1954], No. 12977/54. Class 35. The output voltage of an alternator 1 is stabilized by exciting it in accordance with the difference between a constantly excited field winding 8, and a field winding 4 whose excitation is dependent on the rectified output voltage and preferably frequency. The resultant excitation is amplified, e.g. by an amplidyne exciter 3 as shown. The reference field winding 8 is fed with rectified current from a permanentmagnet A.C. generator 10 which may be driven at a fixed speed ratio with respect to the alternator, e.g. at the same speed. This generator may be connected in series with an inductance 11 of sufficient magnitude to keep the current independent of the generator speed. The bucking winding 4 is fed with rectified output current which may pass through a capacitor 6 and adjustable resistor 7. This current will then rise with an increase of alternator voltage and also with an increase of alternator frequency.
