Abstract
689,920. Alternators. ELECTRIC CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd. Oct. 31, 1951 [Nov. 23, 1950], No. 28698/50. Class 35. The output voltage of an alternator is kept constant by means of a bucking winding fed from a rectifier connected in series, across the output leads, with a choke which is saturated at all values of output voltage. The bucking winding may be applied directly to the alternator but in the form shown the alternator field winding F is energized by an exciter E which carries the bucking winding DF in addition to its shunt field winding EF. The voltage drop across the choke L is constant due to saturation and is the greater part of the normal alternator voltage so that the voltage variation across the rectifier R feeding the bucking winding is very responsive to voltage fluctuations.
