[Class 142 (i)] In a closed centre shed dobby, in which the rear ends 19b of the lifting knives have a greater stroke than the front ends 19a, the knives have steps 17 so that in the open shed position (where the load is greatest) the full width of the hooks 8 is engaged by the knives and the hooks have no tendency to slide along them. The knives have pads 20 guided by slots in frame members 15, the pads having curved shoulders 23 in contact with the members. 15 ; the radius of curvature of the shoulder at each end of a knife is such that their sum is equal to the distance between the shoulders.
