Abstract
620,836. Metal-to-glass seals. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 13, 1945, No. 33822. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1941. Drawings to Specification. [Class 36] [Also in Group XL (a)] A thin imperforate homogeneous sheet of semi-insulating material such as a glass sheet less than 0.0002 inch thick, is sealed to the crimp promontories of a woven wire-mesh screen to form the target electrode for a television transmission tube. The wire-mesh has a coating of enamel which is applied by spraying to a thickness of 0.0001 to 0.0002 inch and then vitrefied by firing. The glass sheet is then supported on the wire-mesh and fired until the softened glass is drawn taut over the enamelled mesh by surface tension. The enamel has a lower softening temperature than the glass and suitable compositions for the enamel and the glass are indicated in the Specification. Specifications 613,003, [Group XL (a)], and 620,843 are referred to.
