Abstract

620,766. Pyrometers; photometers. JESSOP & SONS, Ltd., W., and LAND, T. June 18, 1946, No. 18225. [Classes 97 (i) and 97 (iii)] [Also in Group XL (b)] In a radiation pyrometer, a tube 1 carrying a convex heat-resisting lens 3 is supported by the body of the instrument (not shown) which also carries a flange 6 surrounding a hood 5 of heatresisting steel surrounding the tube 1. The hood has an inlet duct 7, directed rearwardly of the lens, through which compressed air is injected to remove dust and smoke from the path of incident radiation, which is focused by the lens on a photo-cell (not shown) connected to an electrical measuring instrument in the usual manner. A brass tubular member 9 screwed to tube 1 projects forwardly within the hood, causes the air to flow turbulently in the annular space, and protects the lens surface from oil or water drops entering with the compressed air. A thermocouple may be substituted for a photocell. The Provisional Specification refers to a control function of the photo-cell.
