Abstract
666,523. Photo-electric pyrometer. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 24, 1950 [June 29, 1949], No. 17224/49. Class 40 (iii). In a photo-electric pyrometer, to avoid errors due to temperature variations over the radiating surface and sensitivity variations over the photo-cell surface, an object lens L2 projects an image of the rear surface of the object lens L1 on to the photo-electric cell C. An apertured diaphragm A adjustable by a screw mechanism S serves to limit the area of the radiating surface from which heat rays are received by the cell. The diaphragm is situated at the conjugate focus of the radiating area. The photo-cell may be mounted in a detachable head H which may also contain the measuring equipment. If an alternating output is required from the photo-cell a vibrating reed may be employed as described in Specification 642,697, [Group XL (c)], or a chopping-wheel may be employed this wheel being situated between two diaphragms with aligned apertures. An infra-red filter I is inserted in front of lens Ll or may be inserted directly in front of cell C.
