619,347. Making composite pipes. STOCKDALE, W., and OPENSHAW, W. Dec. 3, 1946, No. 35836. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Soldering ; stamping.-In a process for lining metal T or other pipe junctions with a corrosionresistant metal such as lead, the lining B is inserted in the pipe, the two ends of the pipe A are blanked off and hydraulic pressure applied, a hole is burnt in the centre of the lining bulging out at the other aperture or apertures a<SP>2</SP>, the lining is tafted around the sides of the aperture or apertures, a further tube or lining is inserted in the aperture or apertures, the two portions of lining are joined by melting or burning and all apertures are finally blanked off and hydraulic pressure is re-applied. In a modification the pipe interior is pre-coated with tin or other flux and is finally heated to a temperature to melt the flux and thereby unite the lining to the surface of the pipe. In another modification, when the pipe is to be subjected to a vacuum when in use, tapered holes are formed in the unlined pipe and afterwards filled with molten lead &c. which unites with the lining.
