A method of jointing at least two graphite articles comprises placing a layer of metal intermediate the surfaces of said articles and heating to a temperature at or above a point at which an eutectic mixture of the carbide of said metal and carbon is formed. Preferably the joint is heated to a temperature which is 20‹ to 50‹ C. higher than the initial point at which said eutectic mixture starts to form. The metals used may be Mo, Y, Ce, Ni.
