Abstract

680,588. Soldering and brazing. METROCUTANIT, Ltd. Aug. 16, 1950, No. 20379/50. Class 83 (iv). A firm and homogeneous body for use in brazing is formed by mixing powdered copper only or silver only with flux material. The body is formed by pressing the metal with one or more of the fluxes which are volatile at brazing temperatures such as resins, ammonium chloride, sodium ammonium orthophosphate, potassium fluoride or borax to the shape of the joint to be made, such as squares, discs or rings. Carbide tips may be brazed to steel shanks by inserting a compact suitably shaped between the surfaces prior to heating. Resistance brazing may be used. The compacts which may be coated to prevent moisture absorption may be secured to the surface to be joined, for example by gluing.
