Abstract

The working surfaces of drilling tools are hard surfaced by applying thereto hard metal grains embedded in copper or brass, the grains being incorporated while the copper or brass is in a liquid condition. A paste containing grains, flux and powdered copper or brass may be melted on by electric arc or welding torch. Alternatively the grains may be applied to the surface and embedded in metal deposited from a welding rod.
