619,002. Pressure gauges. NATIONAL PRESSURE COOKER CO. Nov. 18, 1946, No. 34178. Convention date, Aug. 28. [Class 106 (ii)] A pressure gauge for use on a domestic pressure cooker includes a flexible diaphragm which moves a plunger against the action of a spring. A cylindrical weight member 20 has a counterbored hole, the lower part 21 of which is adapted to fit over the vent 15 of the cooker and the upper part 22 of which has an insert 23 held in place by a flange 24. The insert has an opening 26 and a V-shaped groove 27 at the top. The flexible diaphragm 33 is held in place by means of the skirt portion 40 of a cap 41 and when deflated has a cup-shaped portion 34 in which is a metal cup 50. The upper end of a plunger 43 projects through an opening in the top of cap 41 and a collar 46 encircles the plunger which is normally held in its retracted position by a spring 51. The gauge is enclosed by a case 53 fastened to the member 20 at 54 and having a handle 57. The vent 15 has a groove 30 which grips a split-ring 31 on the gauge and holds the vent opening 16 against the opening 26, the pressure in the cooker thus raising the plunger 43 so that one or more of the markings 52 become visible.
