Abstract

618,746. Fasteners for vehicle sliding roofs. MOBBS, H., and SMITH, G. H. Nov. 28, 1946, No. 35346. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXXII] The sliding roof panel 10 of a vehicle of the type described in Specifications 563,736, [Group XXXII], and 580,284, which in the retracted or open condition is disposed with its rear part beneath the internal plate 40 of the fixed roof part 11, consists of a frame structure, having side members connected by. transverse rails at the back and front, and preferably having a longitudinal central member, the whole being covered by a sheet of metal or other material. The panel has pairs of rollers 17, 18 and 16 mounted at each end and intermediately thereof respectively, which run on angle iron rails 15 rigid with the fixed part of the roof, these angle irons 15 having fixed to them, externally thereof, metal gutters 45, the faces of which guide laterally balls 43 in side extensions 42 of the panel 10. When the panel 10 is almost fully extended the front pair of rollers 17 come above the recess formed by a transverse channel member 36 secured to the top of the windscreen 14 and the rear part of the panel 39 comes below an indentation in the internal plate 40 so that the panel 10 is able to rock on the central pair of rollers 16 in such a way that its front edge 34 bears against the top of the windscreen and its top surface lies flush with the fixed roof part 11. The panel 10 is locked in this position by a handle 22 which operates intercoupled front and rear discs 23 and 25 linked to transverse struts 30 and 31, the ends of which engage wedges 32 and 33 secured to the angle irons 15.
