Abstract

319,966. Harrington, E. G. Oct. 27, 1928. Hoods for vehicles, of the type having hoopstrips carried on runners comprising a substantially channel-shaped body carrying a number of rollers for engaging the upper and lower surfaces of the rail flange, are characterized in that the total width of the upper rollers in contact with the rail is at least as great as the total width of the rollers in contact with the rail. The body 9 of the runner has a pair of upper rollers 15 and two pairs of lower rollers 17, 18 all adapted to engage the upper flange of the rail 11 which runs the full length of the vehicle. Between the two pairs of lower rollers is a locking-device comprising screw 21 and lock-nut 23. Carried on top of the runner, and swivelling on the screw 28 is the hoop-stick carrier 27, which may either be rigid, or pivoted on pin 32 as shown. All the runners on one side of the vehicle may be connected together by a continuous strap 24. The upper flange of the rail may have one or more short removable portions.
