Abstract

618,708. Battery-charging stands; insulating supports. CONCORDIA ELECTRIC SAFETY LAMP CO., Ltd., and CORNISH, J. P. Nov. 13, 1946, No. 33681. [Classes 36 and 53] The bus-bars of a stand for charging storage batteries are insulated from the metal structure of the stand by spacing and bushing members made of a compressible and resilient non-conducting material such as polymerized ethylene. Fig. 5 shows a bus-bar 4 supported by bolts 3 projecting from a battery supporting bracket 5. The bolts pass through openings in a pair of spacing members 1 which may be formed in one with a connecting web 2. One end 7 of each of the members 1 is reduced to engage in an opening in the bus-bar, bushes 10 being passed over the bolts to engage the spacers 1. Tightening nuts 3a are screwed on to the bolts. The openings in the bus-bar may be slightly larger than the reduced ends of the spacers and bushes 1, 10 which may be shorter than as shown in Fig. 5 so that they do not engage with one another within the opening in the bus-bar. When the nuts 3a are tightened, the bushes and spacers are compressed and expanded to fill the openings in the bar. In Fig. 5, the ends 8 of the spacers 1 are plane and rest against the bracket 5, but they may be constructed and secured in openings in the bracket in a similar manner to the ends 7. The web portion 2 may be made of the same thickness as the parts 1 so that the device is in the form of a plate having projecting portions 7 engaging openings in the bus-bar, the plate making contact over its whole surface with the bus-bar and bracket 5. Alternatively, the spacers 1 may be formed on one side only of the web 2.
