[Class 120(i)] In a tape condenser, for a carding machine the train of gears g driving the feed and dividing mechanism are driven from a pinion b at one end of a driving shaft a extending across the feed end of the condenser, via gear c, a change wheel e, and an intermediate wheel f mounted on a stud h adjustable for different sizes of wheel e. Wheel e also drives a gear j and sprocket k transmitting drive to the doffer. The other end of shaft a drives, via gears m and clutch n, a pulley r or a sprocket transmitting drive to the usual vertical shaft of the rubbing motion. By withdrawing wheel f from engagement with wheel e and gear g, the carding machine can be emptied without emptying the condenser; alternatively a clutch may be provided in the drive from wheel f.
