Abstract

618,033. Rivets. GUEST, KEEN, & NETTLEFOLDS, Ltd., and BRISTOW, J. W. Oct. 16, 1946. No. 30750. [Class 89 (i)] Tubular rivets for use when access can only be had to one side of the work, are provided initially with flanges at both ends. The inner flange has a conical periphery 13 and a number of slots 16 that permit the head to be contracted to pass through the work as shown in Fig. 3. After insertion the rivet is expanded by a screw 22 with a head bearing through a washer 25 on an upstanding lip 20 formed on the outer flange. Continued tightening of the screw deforms the rivet axially at 17, Fig. 5, causing the plates to be tightly held. If thinner plates are to be connected additional washers may be used on the . underside of the outer flange. Sealing compound may be applied to the flange and/or washers at the outer side.
