Abstract

563,435. Riveting. SPRINGATE, M. S. Feb. 9, 1943, No. 2139. [Class 83 (iv)] A device for clamping articles such as plates together when access can be had to one side only, comprises a bolt 10, with a Banged clamping member 12 to engage one side of the plates, and a cupshaped nut 13 passed through holes in the plates. Bores in the flange of the nut receive balls 15 and are of such size that the balls cannot pass entirely through. Slots 16 in the member 12 expand the balls, as the bolt is secured into the nut, to engage the other side of the plates. A split ring 18 or like device limits the movement of the nut. In a modification, the bolt and member 12 are integral.
