Abstract
617,949. Collapsable furniture. HOUNSFIELD, L. H. Oct. 9, 1946, No. 30182. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A collapsable chair has side frames 1 spaced by removable front and rear rails 5, 6 and secured together by means of the seating fabric 21, which is preferably laced around bars 3 connecting the front and rear uprights of the side frames. The uprights are connected by stays 4, 12 which, when the bars 3 and upper ends of the stays are disconnected, can pivot about their lower ends to enable the side frames to be collapsed and bundled. Preferably the uprights are tubular and plugs 24 inserted in their upper ends carry flexible arm-rests 25 and a removable back 29 or the arm-rests and back may be removed and a flexible table top or a canvas wash basin substituted. The plugs are slotted at their lower ends to engage a transverse pin 35, Fig. 8, which prevents rotation. The horizontal rails 3, 5 are spigoted in brackets 7, Figs. 11 and 12, and retained by cotters 13 which also serve to secure the top ends of the stays 4, 12. The cotters are retained by a spring 16 which enters a slot 20 near the end of the cotter. A tray 46 may be mounted on a bracket 45 carried by a front upright of the frame 1.
