Abstract
<PICT:0617889/III/1> <PICT:0617889/III/2> In a vapour recovery system for aeroplane fuel tanks comprising a shell 6 containing a heat-exchanger 7, condensate tank 8, pump 31 for return of condensate to the fuel tank a1 and pipe 17 for delivery of vapours to the heat-exchanger 7, which is provided with cooling tubes 13 exposed to air currents forced by the slip stream through a duct 23, flow of the vapour through the heat-exchanger is produced by establishing a sub-atmospheric pressure in the accumulator tank 8 by means of a venturi device comprising a hood 28 bolted to the outside of the shell 6 and exposed to the slip stream, and a tube 29, one end of which leads to the upper portion of the accumulator and the other end is disposed within the hood 28. The pump 31 is operated by an electric motor automaticaly through a switch controlled by the float 36. In modifications, the heat-exchanger and accumulator are mounted above the fuel tanks and the condensed fuel is injected directly into the fuel induction system of the aeroplane engine.
