Abstract

Vacuum pump unit partic. for use in desalination plant comprises a centrifugal pump (1) powered by a motor (9). The pump outlet (2) leads to the upper region of a separation chamber (3) to the top of which is connected an outlet line (8). A return line (4) runs from the lower part of the separation chamber down to a gas-charging chamber (6) into which the gas is fed through a supply/pipe (7). The outlet (5) from this chamber leads back to the pump. Cooling coils cool the returned liquid in the separation chamber. The vacuum line (7) is connected e.g. to the condenser of a desalination plant whereby the vacuum pump is used to remove the condensate and to load a vaporiser via the condenser. The design dispenses with the use of expensive condensers and vaporisers.
