Abstract

617,291. Washing clothes. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Sept. 23, 1946, No. 28475. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1945. [Class 138(ii)] A process for laundering a mixture of garments of cellulose acetate filaments with garments of viscose filaments comprises subjecting the washed garments to hydro-extraction in order to remove a portion of the water content, then to the action of hot humid air to reduce the water content of the cellulose acetate garments to that desirable for hot-pressing the garments or like finishing treatment, and, thereafter, hot-pressing the garments. Preferably, the second water-reducing step takes place in a drying tumbler provided with a jet through which the hot humid air is injected. The water content of the cellulose acetate garments is preferably reduced in the first hydro-extraction step to about 75 per cent based on the weight of the goods, and to about 2 to 8 per cent by the action of the hot humid air; the corresponding reductions in the water content of the viscose garments would be to 125 per cent and 60 to 65 per cent respectively.
