Abstract

617,067. Compound sheet materials. DEHN, F. B. (Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation). Aug. 8, 1945, No. 20343. [Class 140] [Also in Group XIII] An insulating pad which may be secured to walls comprises a flexible mat 7, Fig. 3, of loosely matted fibre-glass, a reinforcing foraminous textile material such as widemesh cheese cloth 8 over one face of the mat, a flexible plastic film 9 bonded to the cloth, and a layer of finishing fabric 10, which covers the other face of the mat and is lapped around the margins of the film as at 14. Seams 11 extend throughout and secure the laminations. Sockets 12 of fasteners are inserted in the corners and along the margin so that the pad may be installed, with the film 9 inwards, against a wall. The plastic film may be formed of cellulose derivatives such as ethyl cellulose, cellulose acetate or nitrate, or of thermoplastic resins such as polyvinyl chloride or acetate. The fibrous mat, cheese-cloth and plastic film are bonded together by softening the film with a solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone and applying heat and pressure. In a modification, the fibrous mat comprises two sections 7 and 23, Fig. 5, between which is bonded a film 24.
