A prefabricated undercollar assembly material comprises a melton or felt material and a canvas or other stiffening cloth secured together over their abutting faces at isolated spots by means of a thermoplastic synthetic resin adhesive. A suitable adhesive is a vinyl copolymer, such as "Bakelite" (Registered Trade Mark) VYHH with a plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate. For example a linen fabric may be coated with granules of the resin, heated to soften the resin, the melton applied, and the combination passed through rollers to form the assembly. A collar may be made by cutting from this assembly an undercollar of the exact size and shape of the finished collar, and attaching the desired facing cloth.
