Abstract
616,627. Discharge lamps. COLE, Ltd. E. K., and STICKLEY, W. A. Sept. 12, 1945, No. 27409. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge lamp has its electrodes a, b, contained in separate sealed chambers c, d, the walls of which are of insulating material; the wall d separating the chamber functions as the dielectric of a series capacitative impedance between the electrodes. The walls of one or both the chambers may be transparent or translucent or may have fluorescent coatings. The filling may be the same in each chamber and may comprise 20 mg. of mercury with argon at 3.5 mms. pressure; alternatively the filling may be different in each chamber, one containing for example, argon and mercury and the other argon and neon. The electrodes may comprise a primary winding of 55 micron tungsten wire wound on a 200 micron mandrel at a pitch of 200 microns and a secondary winding with 18 turns of the above wire on a 1 mm. mandrel and coated with an electron emissive compound.
