Abstract
615,402. Electric filters. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 21986. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1938. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A radio receiver for the reception of two carrier frequencies in adjacent channels, such as for television and associated sound, comprises an aerial supplying an input transformer 10, 12 tuned by a condenser 14 and coupled to a coil 16 having a resistance 18 for extending the band width so as to include both frequencies. An oscillator 22 has a tuned circuit 24, 26 which is coupled to coil 16 so that the oscillator frequency and both carrier frequencies are applied to the control grid of a frequency changer 20, the output of which thus includes both the sound and the picture intermediate frequencies. The intermediate frequency transformer 28, 44 is tuned by adjustable magnetic cores to the picture intermediate frequency which s then amplified by valve 40 and passes to the subsequent stages. A condenser 54 and inductance 56 are connected between the control grid of 40 and ground to form a circuit which is series resonant to the sound intermediate frequency so that at this frequency coil 44 is effectively short-circuited and condenser 42 is effectively in parallel with coil 28, the lower end of which is grounded through byepass condenser 34. Condenser 42 is adjusted to cause coil 28 to resonate at tho sound intermediate frequency and the oscillations are applied to a sound intermediate frequency amplifier 60 and to subsequent stages.
