Abstract
514,064. Impedance networks. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 25, 1938, No. 12341. Convention date, April 24, 1937. [Class 40 (iii)] An intermediate-frequency filter for admitting a wide television band while excluding an adjacent sound-frequency band comprises two coupled circuits I, II, tuned to the mid-band television frequency and a rejector network III for excluding the sound frequencies, means such as the resistance 26 being provided for balancing out the effects of the resistance inherent in the coil 22 or its analogue. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the rejector circuit III is tuned to reject the sound carrier and behaves as a capacitance at the television frequencies in the primary circuit 14, 13, 18, in which the capacity 14 is or includes the anode capacity of the valve 1, the inductance 13 may be shunted by a resistance 15 to broaden the tuning, and the inductance 18 serves to couple the circuits I, II, the condenser 19 is a by-pass condenser for the anode battery B. In the secondary circuit 18, 20, 16, 17, the capacity 20 is a blocking condenser and the capacity 17 is or includes the grid capacity of the valve 7, a grid leak being shown at 25. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the resistance 26 is tapped off the inductance instead of the capacitance in the rejector circuit III. In a further modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) the bridged tee network III is replaced by a network which has a negative mutual-inductance coupling with the inductance 13. The network III may be variously located in relation to the circuits I, II. The inductance coils 13, 16, 18, 41, 42 are arranged as shown in Fig. 5 on two supporting tubes 50, 51, and surrounded by a screen 52.
