Abstract
615,201. Engine frames. MEINERTZ, M. F. Aug. 6, 1946, No. 23280. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1945. [Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII] In a built-up steel frame, side pieces 5 which extend from the base 1 to the cylinder block 4 and are centrally loaded by forming them so that their neutral axes lie on lines joining the centres of gravity of the upper and lower flanges 6, 7, are connected by parallel-faced pieces 8 and serve as crosshead guides. The side pieces 5 preferably have wide flanges 9 for the crossheads adjacent the pieces 8 which are connected by bolts located in the plane of their webs, recesses being provided therein for the tightening nuts.
