Abstract

1,063,082. Engine frames; compressors. RUSTON & HORNSBY Ltd. Jan. 29, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963], No.4775/63. Headings F1B, F1M and F1N. An engine or compressor frame is formed by a series of members forming a lattice of cruciform construction, each cylinder having associated therewith a pair of side cruciform members 17-20, Fig. 1, and a pair of transverse cruciform members 21-24, Fig. 2, rigid with the side members. In Figs. 1 and 2 the cylinders are supported by plates 13, 14, which are supported by the frame comprising an upper Tattice formation 11 and a lower bedplate lattice 12. The lattices are formed by tubes arranged in cruciform engagement, the bedplate portion 12 being bolted to flange 15 on the upper portion 11. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the frame is formed by a single lattice, the lower crankshaft bearing 76 being bolted to struts 73, 74 in the frame.
