Abstract
614,427. Electric cables; junction boxes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. March 6, 1946, No. 7033. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1943. Addition to 614,426. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] An insulating head for an electric cable 2 passing through a sleeve 1 from a region of high fluid pressure to low pressure region through an assembly of deformable joints 5, as described in the parent Specification, is provided with a supplementary stuffing-box 6 and impermeable guard joints 8 and 9. A transverse partition 7 in the sleeve 1 permits the stuffing-box 6 to be tightened independently of the insulating head 4 to obtain the same initial compression of the pieces forming the joint 5. The parts of the joint on the high-pressure side are more easily deformable than those on the low-pressure side, thus ensuring impermeability at low pressures as well as at the higher pressures that will be required to deform the harder joints. Such a pressure-resistant joint may be used for leading submarine cables into junction boxes.
