[Class 138 (i)] A rotary windscreen-wiper comprises a housing on which the wiper arm is pivoted, a blade actuating mechanism including an electric motor and disposed within the housing, manually operable means for moving the wiper arm about its pivotal axis and having arm locking means associated therewith, means adapted to impart axial movement to a member of the actuating mechanism when the arm is swung from one limiting position to another, and a motor-control switch adapted to be opened by the member when the arm is swung to its parking position. The wiper blade spindle 2 is carried on a tubular wiper arm 1 secured to a trunnion 8 rotatable in a housing 10 secured to the vehicle. The trunnion 8 carries a bevel wheel 15 engaging a pinion 16 on a spindle 17 engaging by a tongue-and-slot connection 20 a spindle 17a secured to a finger piece 18 urged inwardly by a spring 19, a peg 21 on the spindle 17a engaging a part 22 of the housing 10 to lock the arm 1 in position. On pulling out the piece 18 to release the peg 21, the arm 1 can be swung, by rotating the piece 21, into its operative or parking position. The wiper blade is driven by an electric motor 23 through a spindle 24, worm gearing 25, 26, clutch members 27, 28, spindle 11, bevels 12, 13, spindle 5 and bevels 6, 7. In bores 32 in an enlargement 14 of the trunnion 8 are plungers 30 spring-pressed against balls 34 and abutting a flange 29 of the member 27. When the arm 1 is in its operative position, the balls rest in recesses 36 in the housing 10, and on swinging the arm away from its operative position, the balls are forced out of the recesses and impart an axial movement to the member 27 and thereby to a spring-loaded stem 40, whereby the members 27, 28 are disengaged and the motor disconnected from the spindle 11, and a motor control switch 42 is opened to stop the motor. On returning the arm 1 to its operative position the switch is closed by spring action and the stem 40 moves the member 27 back into engagement with the member 28. Rollers 43 are provided on the ends of the blade carrier 3 and adapted to strike against a projecting part of the screen frame when the arm 1 is moved to its parking position, so as to align the blade 4 with the arm.
