Abstract

492,138. Windscreen-cleaners. TRIGGS, W. W. (Trico Products Corporation) Jan. 27, 1938, No. 2601. [Class 138 (i)] In a wiper-mechanism of the kind driven from a moving part of the vehicle or engine through a rotating shaft 1, clutch 2, 3, and transmission shaft 4, the end of the shaft 4 is held against axial movement in a head 7, as by thrust bearings 13, 14. The head houses the wiper-actuating shaft 15 on which is the worm gear 11, and is bodily slidable in guideways 21, 22. The shaft 15 carries a crank arm which oscillates the wiper 16 either directly or, as shown, through rack and pinion gearing 18. A pin 25, provided with an operating knob and slidable in the fixed guideway 21, carries an abutment 27. When, during the operation of the wiper, the pin is moved out of locking engagement with a notch 26 in the head 7, the abutment is brought into the path of movement of a cam 28 on the shaft 15. Engagement of the cam with the fixed abutment acts to slide the head 7 to the right. This movement disengages the clutch 2, 3 and also moves the wiper to parked position.
