613,866. Automatic control systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 5, 1946, No. 6782. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] Voltage.-An alternating current voltage regulator is responsive to changes of voltage on both supply and load sides of a transformer T 1 to maintain a constant E.M.F. across load 17 and has a saturable reactor 26 in series with the primary of the main transformer T1, the D.C. control winding 24 of the reactor being fed through a rectifier network 23 from a transformer T2 on the supply side. In series with the D.C. winding of the reactor is a carbon pile resistance 27, the pressure on which is controlled by a solenoid fed from the load side via a potentiometer 28 and another rectifier network 29. A resistor with negative temperature coefficient in series with the solenoid compensates for ambient temperature variations. A " bleeder " resistance 39 across the load side of transformer T1 supplies a load for the reactor when the main load is zero and the condenser 37 across the rectifier 29 is for filtering purposes. The resistance 27 may be controlled by A.C. responsive means. A resistance 36 is connected across the coil to damp the coil circuit to correct hysteresis effects produced by the coil.
