Abstract
871,940. Automatic regulators. TESLA NARODNI PODNIK. April 17, 1959 [April 18, 1958], No. 13160/59. Class 38 (4). In an automatic regulator for the effective value of an alternating current, a primary winding 11 of a transformer 10 is connected to the supply through a resistor 14 and a secondary winding 13 supplies a current of instantaneous value i 3 to a load 16. A secondary winding 12 of the transformer supplies, through a gasfilled stabilizing valve 15, a current of instantaneous value i 2 to the load in a direction opposing that of current i 3 , for that portion of the secondary voltage cycle during which the instantaneous voltage of the secondary winding 12 exceeds the striking voltage of the valve 15. With a reduction in the supply voltage the consequent fall in the current i 3 is compensated by a fall in the current i 2 such as to stabilize the effective value of the current through the load. In a modification, the current i 3 is adjusted by a rheostat and the degree of compensation is adjusted by a potentiometer across the load, the stabilizing valve being connected to the slider of the potentiometer.
