Abstract
593,484. Automatic control systems. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and WALKER, A. H. B. Jan. 29, 1945, No. 2210. [Class 38 (iv)] Voltage.-In regulating the voltage of a load circuit supplied from a rectifier, a single saturating winding on a reactor or transformer is excited through a regulating device providing a magnification of saturating current variation. As shown, a controlling element 14 is connected across the load circuit 2 and a controlled element 13 such as a carbon pile regulator is connected in series, with the saturating winding 11. The reactor may comprise two windings which serve both as choke coils and saturating windings. The invention may be used to control the saturation of one of the transformers in a voltage regulating apparatus of the type described in Specification 493,362. Other forms of regulating device such as a non-linear resistance may be used in place of the carbon pile. The saturating current may be derived from any suitable source such as a small auxiliary rectifier. Saturating windings for load current regulation may be added. Specification 469,414 also is referred to.
