[Class 120(ii)] [Also in Group VII] A sewing machine provided with a motor, a driving shaft and a bobbin winding device with an automatic stop motion is characterised in that the machine is provided with a connecting member mounted on a movable support capable of being brought manually into at least two different positions, in one of which the member connects the motor shaft mechanically with the driving shaft of the machine, whilst in the other position the said connection is interrupted, the member connecting the motor shaft to the device for winding a bobbin, a stop member being so arranged as to come into contact with the thread out the bobbin, when a desired diameter is reached, so as to repel the bobbin and the connecting member, and thus interrupt the drive between the motor shaft and the bobbin winding device. A toggle 25, pivoted at 29, carries two levers 23, 27 pivoted at 24, 28 and spring-urged at 38. The levers 23, 27 carry rollers 20, 21 freely rotating on axles 22, 26, which, may be moved, selectively, so that the driving shaft 11 of a motor shall drive the sewing machine main shaft 12 through pulleys 16, 19 for normal working, or through pulleys 15, 18 for reduced speed working. A spring-pressed recessed lever 31, pivoted at 32, operates to hold the toggle 25 in the selected position. In the middle position of the toggle, the roller 20 is driven by the pulley 15 without driving the shaft 12, and a bobbin 43, driven by the roller 20 through teeth 41 on a hub 40. is filled with thread until a roller 44 bears on the wound package to move the roller 20 away from the pulley 15. In a modification, one pulley only, such as pulley 20, is used, which may be moved longitudinally of the shaft 11 to engage selectively the grooves 15 or 16 in the motor shaft to drive the sewing machine shaft at normal or slow speed or the bobbin supporting shaft for winding on. The bobbin 43 is maintained on the spindle by the engagement of one of its flanges 42 with the face of the roller 44, which is furnished with a conical portion 46 to facilitate the positioning of the bobbin.
