Abstract

747,754. Winding yarn. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 5, 1954 [Feb. 5, 1953], No. 3443/54. Class 120 (2). A yarn winding machine comprises a rotatable mandrel 16 which may be of the kind set forth in Specification 746,693, upon which the yarn package 151, 15<SP>11</SP> is wound, a drive roll 14 for driving the package by frictional contact therewith, damping mechanism, preferably of tne hydraulic kind, operatively connected to the mandrel for damping tne transverse motion thereof, the package being movable from the winding position to a doffing position where it is out of contact with the roll 14, means being provided for reducing the damping action during a part of this movement. The mandrel 16 is carried by an arm 24 furnished with a handle 28, the arm pivoting with a shaft 38 to which is connected a vane 56 moving in a cylindrical chamber 51 and furnished with a spring-loaded valve 62, the chamber being divided by a plate 57 provided with a reliefvalve 61. The chamber is relieved at 59 to allow oil to flow more quickly past the end of the vane 56 as the arm 24 is moved from the winding position 24<SP>11</SP> towards the doffing position 24<SP>111</SP> (56<SP>11</SP>). Just before the limit stops 32, 33 engage, stronger damping is again introduced. A brush 19 cleans the roll 14.
