Abstract

A paint roller comprises an open-ended cylinder having a length of textile fabric spirally wound thereon, bearing supports mounted in the open ends of said cylinder and a handle having an extension mounted in bearings carried by said bearing supports. As shown, the roller 1 which is preferably formed of a plurality of substantially cylindrical laminations 2 has spirally mounted thereon a length or lengths of fabric 3, preferably short piled fabric, secured by adhesive and the ends additionally secured by staples 4. Metal discs 5 with cupped flanges 6 having out-turned flanges 7 fit snugly within the cylinder ends. Journal bushings 8 are inserted in orifices in the discs and secured therein by flanges 9 and stepped shoulders 91 which are deformed to produce gripping lugs 10. The bushings may be formed integral with the discs. A handle 11 has mounted therein a bent rod 12 on which the cylinder is rotatably secured by means of a rigid collar 15 and nut 16. <PICT:0613188/III/1> <PICT:0613188/III/2>
