223,687. Brodie, R. B., and Alison, A. F. Aug. 10, 1923. Coating -machines.-An apparatus for painting barrels comprises in combination discs or rollers g on and by which the barrel is rotated, rotary brushes g<1> dipping into troughs i to paint the bilge of the barrel, and rotary brushes j<2> dipping into troughs r to paint the barrel-ends. The brushes g<1> may be vertically adjusted to coact with different shapes of barrel, by means of inclined spindles g<2> mounted at each end in bearings h. Fig. 6, carried by the pivoted arms h<3>. The arms h<3> have supporting screws s resting on projecting feet s<1>, the outer two of which are vertically adjusted by the lever t<2>, and the inner two by the lever t<3>, Fig. 3. The briishes i<2> are mounted on a frame j, Fig. 5, pivoted on the shaft k<2>, so as to be capable of movement towards and away from the barrel. A lever p and adjustable bolts p<1> are provided to move the brushes and to limit such movement. Guide rollers l bear on the ends of the barrel, and are carried on rods l<1>, l<2>, pivoted at l<3>, l<4>, and connected by cross links m, n and a spring n<1>, so that the rods act in unison and are normally drawn towards each other.
