Abstract

278,528. Curtis, J. J., and Perkins, H. C. Oct. 13, 1926. Piston - rods.- Piston - rods, pump and valve rods and the like are formed in one piece in solid or tubular form and are sheathed or coated with rustless steel. The solid rod a is sheathed with a tube b of rustless steel which is forced on, or fixed by shrinking, riveting or welding. Alternately a sheet may be wrapped around and the edges passed into grooves in the rod, or a strip may be wound round spirally. When a coating is used, the rod is roughened and molten rustless steel is sprayed on to the surface. According to the Provisional Specification, duralumin may be used in place of rustless steel.
