Abstract
<PICT:0703632/III/1> A device for applying paint and the like to surfaces comprises a roller of uniform diameter for its complete length rotatably supported by a spindle and constituting a support for a sleeve, characterised in that the cylindrical wall of the roller comprises one or more springy parts which are inwardly displaceable to decrease the effective diameter of the roller to enable the sleeve to be fitted thereon and retained in position. A cranked handle 1 provides a spindle on which the roller rotates by means of short tubular bearings 6 spot welded to the spindle, and bushes 5 rivetted to end members 4. The roller surface comprises two curved plates 7 which each have a corner of each end edge spot welded to the adjacent end member 4 such that one longitudinal edge is secured to the circumference of the end members 4 with the other longitudinal edge 7a free to flex inwardly. The sleeve may consist of a plastic tube covered with lambskin or other material, and is held in place on the roller by the springy parts tending to open and so gripping the inside of the sleeve.
