Abstract

A cylinder is covered on the outside with hair or similar material and rotates by means of its end flanges on a supporting spindle. One of the flanges (2) rotates freely in an annular groove (7) of a self-clamping sleeve split along one side, the sleeve diameter being slightly less than that of the spindle on which it fits (1). The two flanges of the cylinder can be joined by a hollow tube. The design avoids the need for a clamping screw, which is difficult to remove when covered in hard paint and when it is desired to dismantle the roller for cleaning.
