R. E. KRUCK 2,452,131
COSMETIC DEVICE Oct, 26,1948.
Filed Feb. 28, 1946 v a f Patented Oct. 26, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COSMETIC DEVICE 7 Ralph E. K-ruck, Longrneadow, Mass.
Application February 28, 1946, Serial No. 650,863
2 Claims. 15-130.1)
This invention relates to improvements in cosmetic devices.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a cosmetic device having a receptacle in which is receivable a lipstick associated with a closure for the receptacle. The closure is removable from the receptacle to facilitate the use of the lipstick while at the same time the closure is movable relative to said receptacle to release an applicator movable on the receptacle to an extended position whereby it may be used for the purpose intended. The objects are accomplished by the provision of a novel combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter appear.
With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of Parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of :a cosmetic device embodying the novel features of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the receptacle on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and showing the closure member, lipstick, applicator, applicator tip and retainer in side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the device shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the closure of the device;
Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of the device with the closure in a position away from its closed position; and
Fig. 6 is a side elevation-a1 view .of the device with the applicator in extended position.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
A receptacle is represented by 2 which is closed at one end by a wall 4 and open at its opposite end, the same being circular in cross section at one side thereof.
A closure 6 has a cylind-rica1 upwardly extending hub part 8 which is receivable in the circular part of the receptacle. The said closure is rotatable from a closed position where it closes the receptacle .to a position away therefrom as is shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
The closure has fixed thereto a lipstick device 10 which may include an outer shell l2 that is rotatable so as to move a lipstick [4 up or down.
2 Such a device may take various forms but a good example of such a device as is adapted. for the invention is shown in U. S. Patent No. 2.173500 of September 19, 1939, to William G. Thompson.
The closure may be withdrawn so that the lipstick'is available for use but need not be so with drawn to render the applicator available as will subsequentlyappear. i
'A' slot '16 is provided in a side of the receptacle and an applicator device I8 is swingabl-e at one end thereof on a pivot from the non-extended position in the slot as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and-5 to theextended position as shown in Fig. 6.
Means such as a brush 22 is provided on the free end of the applicator device l8. Other means than the brush 22 may be employed as a tip of yieldable material like sponge rubber, chamois,
felt or the like. With the applicator in extended position said brush .or other means may be employed to apply lipstick or the like or .to smooth out contours or for any other purpose desired.
A retainer 24 is provided on the closure which when the closure is in closed position is adapted to overlie the brush 22 or the end of member l8 thereby to retain the said member in non-extended position. The closure may be rotated from its closed position to a position away therefrom as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 so as to release the member l8 whereby it may be moved to the extended position shown in Fig. 6.
The parts may be made from various materials or combinations thereof and in various shapes all as may be desired.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What it is desire-d to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the Uni-ted States is:
1. A cosmetic device for applying lip rouge comprising in combination, a receptacle member having a longitudinal axial bore therein extending between upper and lower ends thereof closed at its upper end and open at its lower end and also provided with a longitudinally extending slot in a side thereof, an elongated applicator receivable in said slot having an outer end provided with an applicator tip and an inner end pivoted in said slot adjacent the upper end of the receptacle for swinging movements between an inoperative closed position in said slot wherein said tip is disposed in a lower portion of said slot and an operative open position outwardly away from said slot, a closure member insertable in and with-drawable axially from the open end of said bore for supporting a lip rouge device wholly within said bore and being rotatable in the open end of the bore about the longitudinal axis thereof, said closure member provided with means adapted when the closure member is rotated to 'a certain position relative to said receptacle to overlie the lower portion of said slot and the applicator tip when the applicator-is in inoperative position in said slot thereby to prevent swinging of said applicator from said inoperative 4 swinging movements between a closed inoperative position in said slot wherein said tip is disposed in a lower portion of said slot and an operative open position outwardly away from said slot, a closure member having a port-ion insertable in and wi-thdrawable axially from the open end of said bore for supporting a lip rouge device wholly within said bore and being rotatable in the open end thereof and about the longitudinal axis thereof, said closure member provided with means at a side thereof adapted when the'closure member is rotated to a certain position relative to the receptacle to overlie the lower portion of said slot and the applicator tip when the applicator is in inoperativeposition in said slot to prevent swinging of said applicator from said inoperative position and arranged thereby .to release said applicator position and arranged to release said applicator when rotated away from said certain position for "swinging of the applicator to an operative position.
:3 2;. A cosmetic device for applying lip rouge comprising in combination, a receptacle member having a cylindrical longitudinal axial bore therein extending betwen upper and lower ends :thereof' closed at its upper end and open at its lower end and also provided with a longitudinally extending slot in a side'thereof having a lower opencend an' elongated applicatorreceivable in said slot having an outer end provided with an applicatortipyand an inner end pivoted in said slot adjacent the upper end of the receptacle for when rotated away from said certain position for swinging of the applicator to an operative position, said means including a retainer extending upwardly fromqsaid closure member.
