Abstract
An alloy steel, having a high impact resistance for low temperatures in the "as rolled" condition as well as after a stress relieving heat treatment, said alloy steel having the following composition:-C 0.01-0.15 per cent, Mn 0.40-1.00 per cent, P 0.05-0.13 per cent, Si 0.02-0.20 per cent, Cu 0.80-1.30 per cent, Ni 0.40-1.00 per cent, Al 0.10-0.40 per cent, Mo 0.08-0.35 per cent, Fe and the normal impurities forming the balance. The sum of the Al and Mo contents must be at least 0.28 per cent. The alloy steel may be heated at 482 DEG -620 DEG C. for from 1-36 hours to increase the yield point and tensile strength without any substantial loss of impact properties at temperatures substantially below 20 DEG C.
